Aditya-L1 has successfully left the Earth's gravitational field : ISRO
India's first observatory in orbit, Aditya-L1, is used to study the Sun."The spaceship has successfully left the zone of influence of Earth by travelling more than 9.2 lakh km away from it. The Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 1 (L1) is currently in sight, according to a statement from ISRO on Saturday.
The spacecraft has travelled beyond a distance of 9.2 lakh kilometres from Earth, successfully escaping the sphere of Earth's influence. It is now navigating its path towards the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 1 (L1).
This is the second time in succession that ISRO could send a spacecraft outside the sphere of influence of the Earth, the first time being the Mars Orbiter Mission.
ISRO announced the update on X. "Aditya-L1 Mission: The spacecraft has successfully departed the Earth's gravitational field after travelling more than 9.2 lakh km away. Right now, it is directing itself in the direction of Lagrange Point 1 (L1).
The first time was with the Mars Orbiter Mission, and this is the second time in a row that ISRO has been able to send a spacecraft beyond the Earth's sphere of influence.
The Aditya L1 mission got a little bit closer to the Lagrange Point 1 spacecraft. India launched the spacecraft on September 2.
Lagrange points are specific locations in space where the centripetal force experienced by a smaller object is balanced by the gravitational forces of two larger objects.
